BACK TO THE BLUE
This album was made mostly at home over the past two years. Like many things, home changed. I started it in Nashville, continued recording in an Airbnb in Franklin, TN and finished up in a little guest cottage in Santa Barbara. Most hours of recording were spent with dogs sleeping under my feet and birds singing outside my window. (Both of which are audible in places on this album.)
I wrote these songs for ME, because I had to. They're about
heartache, surrender, acceptance and gratitude. They’re about living in the South as an outsider near monuments to the confederacy, leaving Nashville and endings. I really fell in love with the process of making this music and what it was GIVING me, with little concern about any particular outcome. It became a life-raft that I could cling to during the hardest days. Now, I toss it out into the ocean so that if you find yourself, like me, momentarily drifting between two shores you can hold on to these songs too.
